Exclusive with Graeme Bailey.

Liverpool are exploring the idea of bringing Marc Guehi in on a free transfer during next summer’s transfer window, Rousing The Kop can exclusively reveal.

The Reds are currently working on a deal which will see Jarell Quansah move to Bayer Leverkusen, leaving them in need of a new option at centre-back.

Guehi has been put forward as a potential replacement in some quarters, with the Crystal Palace captain entering the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park.

However, RTK understands Liverpool‘s interest in Guehi currently centres around a potential arrival in the summer of 2026.

For his part, the 24-year-old is understood to be reluctant to arrive at Anfield as a third choice option as things stand.

While Liverpool’s interest is concrete, sources have indicated that the Reds are exploring other options should Quansah leave as expected.

Although Quansah’s Liverpool exit moved forward on Thursday, RTK understands the Reds are still yet to reach an agreement on his sale.

The 22-year-old is expected to join Leverkusen, but the transfer is understood to be not as advanced as has been reported elsewhere.

Nevertheless, Quansah is still likely to leave Liverpool after failing to break into Arne Slot’s regular starting XI.

Slot is understood to have been happy to keep the Liverpool academy graduate, with Quansah’s desire for more first team football the driving force behind his move.

While Guehi is clearly on Liverpool’s radar as a long-term option, RTK have been told that Liverpool are assessing other options as more direct replacements for Quansah.

Valencia’s Cristhian Mosquera and Nathan Zeze of Nantes are both being watched, while the Reds are also long-term admirers of Sporting’s Ousmane Diomande.

Although Guehi is being primarily viewed as signing for 2026 at Liverpool, a move during this summer’s window has not been totally ruled out.

Palace are understood to be looking for around £45m to sell their captain as he enters the final year of his agreement.

Guehi was ‘exceptional’ at Euro 2024 last year and Palace rejected a £70m offer for the centre-back as recently as February.

As a result, Liverpool may yet see his cut-price addition as good value.

As things stand, however, the Reds are keeping tabs on his situation before assessing what to do next.
