PSV Eindhoven have registered their interest in signing Southampton striker Cameron Archer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 23-year-old has been a substitute in the Saints’ opening three Championship matches this season after being omitted from each of the starting XIs.

That has encouraged Eredivisie giants PSV in their pursuit of a late-window deal for Archer.

They have contacted Southampton about taking Archer on a season-long loan.

It is believed that PSV are also exploring a forward alternative to the former Aston Villa and Middlesbrough star, who plays in the Premier League.

Since Archer’s move to the south coast from Aston Villa back in the summer of 2024, he has failed to live up to expectations.

Last season in the Premier League, the Englishman started just 13 games, only managing to score twice across the course of the campaign.

After the appointment of Will Still, Archer seems to have slipped even further down the pecking order at Southampton.

So far in 2025/26, the former England Under-21 international has been forced to play second fiddle to Adam Armstrong and has been limited to short run-outs off the bench.

Now, it seems as if Archer could be in line for a loan move to ensure that he gets the game time required in his development.

Meanwhile, Middlesbrough have been informed by central midfielder Hayden Hackney that he wants to leave if a Premier League club comes in for him before the transfer window closes, sources have told Football Insider.

A number of Premier League clubs are plotting last-minute moves for Hackney before next week’s deadline.

Middlesbrough are battling to keep hold of their prize asset and do not want to lose him so late on in the window.

Hackney has played every single minute of Boro’s Championship campaign so far, and is a big part of why his side have a 100% record in the division.
