A host of Premier League clubs are plotting moves for Lorient and Cameroon midfielder Arthur Avom before the close of the transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Avom, 20, has established himself as one of the best young prospects in French football having played a key role in Lorient’s successful promotion to Ligue 1 last season.
The Cameroon international has been likened to former Chelsea and Leicester star N’golo Kante due to his dynamic playing style and ability to adapt defensively and offensively.

Lorient are bracing themselves for interest in Avom before the transfer window closes as his Premier League suitors weigh up moves to firm up their interest in the all-action midfielder.
The all-action midfielder began his senior career in Cameroon with Fauve Azur, and was spotted by Lorient scouts in 2023 before signing his first contract with them that year.
After initially starting out in the French side’s B team, Avom made the step up to play with Lorient’s senior side in Ligue 2 last season, and he impressed with two goals and six assists in 32 league appearances.

Avom has been likened to former Chelsea man Kante because of his tough-tackling, yet unassuming nature and ability to cover every inch of the pitch much quicker than his opponents.

His impressive 2024/25 performances helped the team win the second-tier at a canter as they finished in first place, and his standout showings have not gone unnoticed with Premier League teams now hot on his trail.
Lorient are not one of French football’s powerhouses, but they pride themselves on identifying untapped potential and giving those a chance who may have slipped through the net of larger academies.
Multiple Premier League teams are currently benefitting from their impressive youth set-up and scouting network, with perhaps the most high-profile of previous Lorient players in England, Yoane Wissa, currently embroiled in a huge transfer saga with Newcastle and Brentford.

Sunderland promotion hero Enzo Le Fee was a product of the club’s academy after growing up in the area, while Leeds‘ Illan Meslier shared a similar experience, and Bournemouth’s Brentford-linked star Dango Ouattara was also once on the club’s books.
It is clear that Lorient know what they are doing when it comes to producing and developing talents, many of whom then go on to play at a higher level in England or elsewhere in Europe.
Avom looks set to be the next player emerging out of their ranks to become a key man on these shores, but exactly which team will win the race for his services is unclear right now.
