Stockport County are eyeing a move for AFC Fylde midfielder Taelor O’Kane before the close of the transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Peterborough United had a bid of £100,000 turned down for O’Kane last summer, and now the Hatters are plotting a swoop for his services.
O’Kane spent the second-half of last season out on loan at National League North side Chester, scoring twice in 15 league appearances.
The 20-year-old is a tenacious, hard-working player who plays either as a box-to-box or holding midfielder, and he could be about to make the step up into the EFL from Fylde.
The 20-year-old is the son of former Manchester United and Everton defender John O’Kane, and he joined Fylde’s youth set-up at the age of 15 in 2020.
He won their Academy Player of the Year award in 2022/23 and soon progressed to the first-team a season later, scoring four times in 19 National League appearances.

O’Kane remained a regular in Fylde’s first-team at the start of the last campaign, making 20 appearances in the fifth-tier, but was allowed to leave on loan just after the turn of the year to join Chester.
He impressed in the National League North with the Seals and has now attracted the attention of Stockport, who will have to stump up a sizeable fee for his signature with one-year still to run on his contract at Fylde.
Another player who could soon be making a move to the third-tier of English football, but this time from a Premier League giant, is young Man United striker Gabriele Biancheri.
Football Insider revealed on 19 August that multiple League One and League Two clubs have registered their interest in Biancheri ahead of a potential move away from Old Trafford before the window closes on 1 September.
Biancheri, 18, scored 10 goals in 12 Under-18 Premier League appearances for the club last season, while he also notched five strikes in 11 Premier League 2 outings for their Under-21s.
He trained with Ruben Amorim’s first-team in 2024/25, and also spent time with the Wales senior side under Craig Bellamy before featuring in a training camp with Canada’s men’s team in May.
