Sunderland are exploring a deadline-day deal to sign Norwich City striker Josh Sargent, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League new boys have made contact with the Championship outfit over a last-gasp move for the 25-year-old.

Sunderland are working on multiple deals to increase their attacking options by Monday night’s cut-off.

Chelsea are set to recall loanee Marc Guiu from the Stadium of Light following an injury to Liam Delap, leaving Regis Le Bris’ side in need of another striker.

Sargent is the Championship top scorer as it stands with five goals in four league games for Norwich, including a brace against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday (30 August).

The USA international is regarded by many as the division’s best striker and found the net 15 times last season, as well as picking up five assists.

If the Canaries talisman was to make the switch to Wearside, he would be playing Premier League football for the first time since the 2021/22 campaign, in which he only managed two goals in 26 appearances.

However, his game has developed massively in the past three years, and the Black Cats will hope he can fire them to top-flight safety if he completes the move.

Meanwhile, PSV Eindhoven are in advanced talks to sign Sheffield United star Gustavo Hamer, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

After excelling in the Championship last term, Hamer has attracted transfer interest from Leeds United, who beat his current club to promotion.

However, the midfielder is now more likely to join PSV Eindhoven, who can offer him the chance to return to the Dutch top flight.

While Sheffield United missed out on promotion last season, Hamer was a key asset for the Bramall Lane club, notching nine goals and seven assists in 41 second-tier appearances.
