Sunderland midfielder Nectarios Triantis is being chased by MLS club Minnesota United before the close of the transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Several Championship clubs are also eyeing moves for the Greek international, and it is understood that the Black Cats are willing to move him on ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
The 22-year-old had featured for Australia’s youth teams at international level, but has recently decided to change allegiances to Greece, turning down the chance to feature for the Socceroos [James Dodd].
Having first signed for Sunderland, the centre-back spent the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan at Scottish side Hibernian before returning for the 2024/25 season.

With three goals and six assists in 34 Scottish Premiership matches, there is no doubt over the midfielder’s talents, but new additions at the Stadium of Light have sent him down the pecking order.
Enzo Le Fee, Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, and Granit Xhaka have all signed, and while Triantis is able to deputise in the centre of defence, multiple signings in that position leave him surplus to requirements.
Mick Brown told Football Insider that Sunderland were willing to take a risk on Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer, but it now appears that Leeds United are set to steal his signature.

Despite a plethora of high-profile signings this summer, the Black Cats are one of the favourites to be relegated from the Premier League next season, alongside Leeds and Burnley.
Marc Guiu has joined an impressive attack of Eliezar Mayenda, Romaine Mundle, and Wilson Isidor, who have even been joined by Simon Adingra and Chemsdine Talbi on the flanks.

The African Cup of Nations could be a major turning point for Le Bris’ side, having signed many who will be on international duty in December and January, but supporters are full of confidence this summer.
Sunderland will give absolutely everything once the season kicks off, trying not to fall back down to the Championship, but it is unlikely that Triantis will be part of that journey at the Stadium of Light.
