Wolves are not considering sacking Vitor Pereira despite his side’s poor start to the season, sources have told Football Insider.

Pereira signed a new deal at Molinuex last week, which seemed to be a vote of confidence from the board, despite the club’s disastrous form.

However, the three-year contract extension will be rendered useless if the 57-year-old cannot turn things around at the Midlands side, who are currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League.

Sources say that Pereira’s job is safe for the time being, as he has credit in the bank from last season, but that the current situation cannot continue for much longer.

One factor playing into Pereira’s favour is the loss of his two most important players during the summer transfer window, which gives him a bit of leeway in terms of bad results.

Matheus Cunha completed a £62million switch to Manchester United after scoring 15 Premier League goals for Wolves last season, leaving a gaping hole in attack.

To make matters worse for Pereira, he also saw star wing-back Rayan Ait-Nouri join Manchester City.

Ait-Nouri was a vital part of the Portuguese manager’s system, and his departure, along with Cunha’s, has weakened the Old Gold significantly.

The Wolves hierarchy understands the consequences of these two sales and are willing to give Pereira more time as a result.

Meanwhile, Wolves may have included a hidden clause in Pereira’s new contract which would enable them to sack him if needed.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who claims that the Midlands-based side are now among the favourites to be relegated this season.

Brown believes there could be a clause in the new deal that reduces Pereira’s pay-off if Wolves decide to part ways with the Portuguese boss.

Therefore, it would allow the hierarchy to address the situation and make a change if the poor form continues.
