Wrexham are making moves to sign Blackburn Rovers defender Dominic Hyam before the close of the transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old has emerged as a key target for Phil Parkinson‘s side as he aims to bring in experienced defenders to help push them up the Championship table.

Hyam has just one year remaining on his current contract at Blackburn, and this is seen as their last chance to raise a decent fee from his sale.

Wrexham are working hard to get a deal over the line and are hopeful of reaching an agreement with their divisional rivals before 7pm.

However, he has played every minute in the Championship so far this season under Valerien Ismael and remains a key part of his plans for the season.

Wrexham have enjoyed a busy transfer window at the Stok Cae Ras following their promotion from League One and are keen to end with a flurry of incoming deals.

At the back, the experienced head of Conor Coady has been joined by Man City youngster Callum Doyle, but there are still improvements to be made.

Hyam is being targeted for his experience in the Championship, having made over 200 appearances in the second tier with both Blackburn and Coventry City.

He played every league game under Ismael last season and the boss is believed to be reluctant to let him leave with just hours left of the transfer window.

Despite this, the centre-back remains a key target for Wrexham who are determined to get it done.

Wrexham look set for a busy deadline day with both incoming and outgoing deals in the closing stages, as George Evans could be set to leave the Racecourse.

Football Insider revealed on 1 September that Burton Albion are in talks to sign Evans and are working hard to land a deal for the 30-year-old.

Sources say that it would be a loan move, with both clubs continuing negotiations in the hope of reaching an agreement.

Evans has not featured in any of Wrexham’s first four games of the Championship season, instead being limited to appearances in the Carabao Cup.
