Axel Disasi could complete a move away from Chelsea in the next few days with the Saudi Pro League transfer window open until 23 September.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Enzo Maresca is keen to sell the 27-year-old who has no part in his plans.

A proposed move to Bournemouth fell through earlier in the window, while the defender is believed to have snubbed moves to West Ham, Crystal Palace and Wolves.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 27 August that Chelsea are aiming to sell players to Saudi clubs as they look to shift members of Maresca’s “bomb squad”.

Alongside Raheem Sterling, Disasi has remained at Stamford Bridge beyond the close of most European transfer windows, limiting his options for a move away.

Now, he could be given the ultimatum of either moving to a Saudi Pro League or Turkish club, or remaining at Chelsea knowing he has no part to play.

This article contains exclusive comment from Mick Brown, a football transfer expert and former chief scout for Man United and Sunderland among others.

Chelsea have raised around £287million through player sales so far this summer, and managed to shift Ben Chilwell to sister club Strasbourg on deadline day.

Now, Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted efforts will be made behind the scenes to cash in on Disasi in the coming days.

“Axel Disasi isn’t part of the manager’s plans at Chelsea,” he told Football Insider.

“Ideally, they’d have moved him on already, but they’re still working on it.

“It’s a deal they’d like to get done before January if they can, because otherwise what’s he going to do between now and the January window?

“There are still transfer windows open, including in Saudi Arabia.

“So that could be a potential destination for him, if he’s willing to make the move over there.

“Whether there has been any interest in him, I’m not sure, but Chelsea are making efforts to move him on as they have been throughout the window.

“The manager doesn’t see him as part of his plans, so there’s no reason to keep him around.

“If they can do it before the Saudi window closes, it’s certainly something they’re interested in.”

Alongside Disasi, Sterling’s future at Chelsea is also in doubt following the end of the transfer window as he is not expected to be integrated into the first-team plans.

Brown told Football Insider on 2 September that Chelsea could “tear up” Sterling’s contract at Stamford Bridge and allow him to move on a free transfer.

Both West Ham and Fulham were both believed to be interested in signing the 30-year-old but opted against making a move on deadline day due to his contract situation.

Fulham made a late approach for Sterling amid doubts about their efforts to sign Kevin from Shakhtar Donetsk, but the Brazilian was eventually signed.
