Crystal Palace are planning to accelerate their transfer plans in the final month of the window despite uncertainty behind the scenes.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the Eagles will make advances towards key targets in the near future.

This comes after Oliver Glasner, speaking to Austrian media [via Sport Witness] confessed: “We haven’t made the most of the transfer window so far.

“I was promised that we would be more active and bring in new players earlier this year.

As of now, I have 17 outfield players!

I hope we don’t lose any more.”

Football Insider revealed on 30 July that Arsenal could miss out on signing Eberechi Eze as Palace are demanding his £68million release clause be met.

Keeping hold of their best players has become paramount following the boss’ outburst, but the recruitment team also plan to bring in new faces.

Brown told Football Insider on 26 June that Palace are confident of keeping their best players as they have no plans to weaken their squad this summer.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the Eagles’ transfer plans have so far been disrupted by their European situation.

“Crystal Palace have to be active in the transfer market,” he told Football Insider.

“I’ve got a lot of faith in the way they’ve done things in recent years, they’ve been clever in the market and managed their assets very well.

“They’ve been very good at taking players who maybe aren’t proven yet and turning them into important players in their side.

“But they have to keep building on that, especially if they want to be competitive in Europe.

“All of this stuff about what competition they’re going to be playing in hasn’t helped, that’s for sure, and losing Dougie Freedman was a blow as well.

“But they need to strengthen their squad and I’m sure work has been going on behind the scenes.

“There are a number of players they were watching closely last season and in my experience, they do their scouting and due diligence very well.

“I expect they’ll step up their efforts later in the window, which isn’t anything new for them.

“A lot of focus has been on whether players might leave, but they can’t afford to let that become the focus when they need to bring players in as well.”

Despite the need for reinforcements at Selhurst Park, much of the talk surrounding Palace has been about outgoing players rather than incoming.

Football Insider revealed on 19 July that Tottenham are interested in signing Adam Wharton, but the Eagles are not prepared to entertain offers this summer.

Palace are set to demand upwards of £100million to sell the England international following their FA Cup success as he remains a crucial part of their plans.

Brown told Football Insider in March that Tottenham will rival Man City for Wharton’s signature but are concerned it would cost a “huge” fee to agree a deal.
