Crystal Palace are planning to accept an offer for Marc Guehi before the transfer window closes rather than lose him for free next summer.
That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 25-year-old will be allowed to leave if an acceptable offer arrives.
While Oliver Glasner remains keen to keep hold of his captain, there is a belief that his sale for around £40million would allow Palace to spend in the closing stages of the window.
Brown told Football Insider on 4 August that Liverpool are preparing a new offer for Guehi, who has his heart set on a move to Anfield and is prepared to snub other offers.
Palace turned down £70million offers from both Newcastle and Tottenham last summer and in January, and remain keen to receive a hefty fee for his services.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider on 24 June that Liverpool must pay £50million for Guehi and may be willing to do so before the window closes.

Brown told Football Insider on 29 July that Guehi wants to join Liverpool and is prepared to remain at Palace until next summer if it helps him land his ideal move.
The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the Eagles are not ruling out his departure in the window’s late stages.
“Palace don’t want to lose Marc Guehi on a free,” he told Football Insider.
“I’m told if offers come in before the end of the window, they’re going to listen to them.
“It will still have to be on their terms, it has to be a deal which works for them, but they don’t want him to go next year without anything coming their way.
“Of course they’d be happy to keep him for another year, he’s a top-class player and their captain, but it would mean missing out on a big fee for him.
“If they can sell him before the end of the window, that money will go straight back into the team.
“They’ll need to go and sign a replacement for him, which won’t be easy because of how important he has been in their team for years now.
“But say they get £40million or so for him, that will allow them to spend before the window closes.
“I think that’s the plan at the moment, if he leaves they’ll spend the money, if he doesn’t then they’ll be forced to lose him for free but at least they get another year out of him.
“It’s not quite a win-win situation, because like I say they don’t want to lose him for free, but it’s not the end of the world because they’d be keeping a top-class player.”

Alongside Guehi, Eberechi Eze has been heavily linked with a move away from Selhurst Park late in the window, but Palace’s stance towards him is the opposite.
Football Insider revealed on 30 July that Palace will not budge on Eze’s asking price and are demanding any interested clubs meet his release clause if they want to do a deal.
Meanwhile, that £68million release clause is set to expire before the Premier League season begins, and Palace will refuse any offers that arrive after that date.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider that Crystal Palace are confident of keeping Eze and will not sell unless his release clause is activated.
