Everton are set to intensify their efforts to sign Jack Grealish on loan in the final month of the summer transfer window.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that a decision about the 29-year-old’s future is set to be made in due course.

While the initial deal is likely to be a season-long loan, the Toffees will assess his performances before making a decision about a permanent deal next summer.

Football Insider revealed on 5 August that David Moyes is keen to work with Grealish and believes he can get the best out of the England international.

However, both Tottenham and Newcastle are believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation and are also lining up offers to Man City.

Brown told Football Insider in June that Everton will do everything to convince Grealish to join them ahead of their rivals in the race for his signature.

This article contains exclusive comment from Mick Brown, a football transfer expert and former chief scout for Man United and Sunderland among others.

Brown told Football Insider on 30 May that Man City will accept loan offers for Grealish this summer, although they would prefer to sell him permanently.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted the Toffees will only be able to complete his signing on loan at this stage.

“Everton have been looking at Jack Grealish,” he told Football Insider.

“David Moyes is a fan of his and believes he would add that bit of quality they need.

“I can’t see how Everton would be able to pay the sort of money City would want to get him permanently, so they’re trying to get him on loan.

“He would be a great option for them, definitely, even if it is only for one season.

“During his time there, they’ll be able to assess whether his performances are matching their expectations.

“If so, then maybe they could see what it would cost to make the move more long-term next year, but if not then it’s no issue because there’s no major financial outlay.

“At this stage of the window, I think they’ll start doing some more business and pushing to get these deals over the line.

“Grealish’s future has to be resolved and they could offer him that opportunity.

“Either way, he’s going to have to move from City before this transfer window closes.

“He’s not part of the plans there and there are a few clubs who could do with a player like him, I think we’ve spoken before about Newcastle.

“But if Everton want him, I think that would be an excellent move for all parties.“

Alongside their ambitions of signing Grealish, Everton are targeting a strong end to the window with a number of key additions now on their radar.

Brown told Football Insider on 5 August that Everton want to sign Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney and are prepared to hijack his £20million move to Ipswich.

Man United, Tottenham and Crystal Palace are also believed to be keeping a close eye on the situation and have been long-term admirers of the midfielder.

Football Insider exclusively revealed in March that Palace, Tottenham and Aston Villa want Hackney but he could cost a high price if a bidding war begins.
