Everton are exploring a potential deal to sign Southampton winger Tyler Dibling in the final month of the summer transfer window.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that David Moyes is a big fan of the 19-year-old winger.

However, the Toffees could be priced out of the deal by Southampton’s lofty demands and may be forced to turn their attention towards alternative targets.

Football Insider revealed in May that Southampton are demanding £55million for Dibling amid interest from Tottenham despite their relegation from the Premier League.

Interest in the winger has been high since his impressive breakout season last time out, and is expected to accelerate in the final month of the window.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider last month that Crystal Palace want to sign Dibling and are prepared to rival Newcastle and Liverpool for his signature.

Brown told Football Insider on 26 June that Newcastle have set their sights on Dibling but could be forced to consider other targets.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that the money involved in the deal could also put Everton off of the move.

“Tyler Dibling is a very talented player,” he told Football Insider.

“But I’m not convinced he’s the type of player who could go into that Everton team and immediately improve them and take them up a level.

“He’s a young player who still has a lot to improve in his game.

“Everton are looking for a wide midfield player, and David Moyes is apparently a fan of him.

“But when you consider the money it would take to bring him in, will he make as much as an impact as the money would warrant, or would they be taking a chance?

“At the moment, they can’t afford to spend that sort of money on a ‘might be’ player.

“They want people who will make an immediate impact and make their team better right now.

“I don’t think they’re the only team who feel that way either, because the price Southampton are asking for is too high for a player in his position.

“In two years’ time he may be good enough, but they can’t afford to take that chance.”

Alongside their interest in Dibling, Everton have been considering moves to sign alternative wingers, including West Brom star Tom Fellows.

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider on 20 July that Everton are leading the race to sign Fellows despite interest from Leeds United.

The England Under-21 international has been a long-term target for the Toffees after they agreed terms with him in January, but were unable to reach an agreement with the Baggies.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider in February that Everton are prepared to complete Fellows’ signing in the summer transfer window.
