Fulham are planning to chance their stance on the future of Harry Wilson after his proposed move to Leeds United fell through on deadline day.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Fulham could now offer Wilson a new contract to extend his stay at Craven Cottage.

Wilson has featured in all five Premier League games under Marco Silva so far this season, and scored in their 3-1 West London derby victory against Brentford.

However, as things stand, his contract is set to expire at the end of the season when he will be allowed to discuss the possibility of a free transfer elsewhere.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 13 September that Leeds remains keen on signing Wilson despite missing out during the summer.

Football Insider revealed on 12 September that Fulham could cash in on Wilson in the January transfer window to prevent him moving for free next summer.

However, Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has backed Fulham to make a U-turn on the winger’s future with the offer of a new deal.

“Wilson is showing he can still play a part for Fulham,” he told Football Insider.

“It looked like he was going to leave in the summer, but that didn’t happen, and he’s got his head down and kept working hard to stay in the team.

“I think they could now change their minds on letting him go, despite his contract situation.

“There are a number of players like him at Fulham, where they’re reliable and you know what they offer without ever really pulling up any trees.

“Like with his goal against Brentford, everybody knows the sort of thing he can do.

“They’re the type of players you want in your squad as a mid-table team, so they won’t want to lose him, especially not for free or to a rival club.

“So I expect they’ll speak to him and the manager about the possibility of a new contract and see if they can reach an agreement to keep hold of him.”

Wilson’s strong start to the season as a regular in Silva’s side is likely to immediately impact his future, despite lingering interest from Leeds.

Wilson’s move to Elland Road fell through on transfer deadline day after Fulham pulled the plug, feeling he would still have a role to play at Craven Cottage.

His form since the failed move has proven Silva’s side right, but Leeds remained keen to sign Wilson and were tipped to explore a deal in the mid-season window.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 5 September that Daniel Farke is concerned about Leeds after they failed to strengthen in key areas late in the summer window.

Brown told Football Insider on 16 September that Leeds are at serious risk of relegation as a result of their failure to strengthen their goalscoring options in the summer.

However, Leeds’ 3-1 victory against Wolves at Molineux has eased concerns about their attacking issues and kickstarted a renewed optimism around the club.
