Man City are prepared to reach an agreement with Galatasaray as they push to sign Ederson in the closing stages of the transfer window.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Pep Guardiola has been willing to sell the 32-year-old since last season.

Guardiola has overseen major changes to his first-team squad since January and is lining up further deals amid concerns about his ageing players.

Brown told Football Insider in June that Man City could sell at least seven players including the likes of Ederson, Jack Grealish and Kyle Walker this summer.

After a disappointing season which saw City go trophyless for the first time since 2016-17, a number of players are believed to have lost Guardiola’s trust.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed in April that Ederson is increasingly likely to leave Man City as he remains open to a big-money move away.

Brown first told Football Insider in February that Ederson would be allowed to leave Man City at the end of the season amid interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted Guardiola has always been open to letting the goalkeeper go with a replacement lined up.

“It’s no surprise City are looking to part ways with Ederson,” he told Football Insider.

“Go back to last season when City had that period giving goals and points away every game, with a real dip in their form and performances.

“Everybody was making individual errors, including the goalkeeper.

“I think that’s stayed with Guardiola, the players let him down, and I think he hasn’t ever completely trusted a few of them since that spell.

“That’s why he’s been looking to move so many of them on, and he’s been bringing in all these new players to refresh the squad with options he can trust.

“Ederson is one of those who I don’t think ever got completely back into his plans.

“From his point of view, the stance has always been that he would be prepared to let him go for the right price and if they can bring in a replacement.

“It now looks like they’re doing that with James Trafford and potentially Donnarumma, so if another offer comes in for Ederson, they’ll be ready to accept it.”

Ederson is not the only player who has been linked with a move away from Man City in recent weeks, as speculation continues to surround Rodri’s future.

Brown told Football Insider on 16 August that City are concerned that Rodri could have his head turned by Real Madrid after being publicly open in their interest.

However, they are working behind the scenes to offer him a new contract in an attempt to persuade him to commit his long-term future to the club.

Football Insider revealed on 12 August that Man City are not prepared to sell Rodri and are in talks to extend his deal beyond the current 2027 expiry date.
