Man City are “pushing’ to sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid regardless of whether Savinho moves to Tottenham as the deal does not depend on his future.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 24-year-old could be open to a move to the Premier League.

Madrid, meanwhile, are prepared to let him leave should they receive a significant offer as he is not seen as a crucial player by Xabi Alonso.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 21 August that Rodrygo’s representatives have held talks with Man City and Liverpool and potential summer moves.

Savinho, meanwhile, remains a key target for Tottenham in the closing stages of the window but the City hierarchy are reluctant to let him leave.

Brown told Football Insider on 16 August that Tottenham are working hard to sign Savinho and are pushing to reach an agreement before the transfer window closes.

Football Insider revealed on 17 August that Man City are interested in Rodrygo but any deal is expected to be expensive, leading to questions about their pursuit.

However, Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that City are exploring the possibility of getting a big-money move over the line.

“Rodrygo is one Man City are pushing for,” he told Football Insider.

“They’ve got so many players in wide areas already, but they’ve lost Grealish so perhaps they feel there’s a space he has left in the squad.

“There’s been talk about Savinho as well maybe going to Tottenham, but I don’t think he has to leave before they bring somebody else in.

“From City’s perspective, they’d happily have both of them to give them that strength in depth.

“I always think Pep Guardiola has to decide on what his first-choice wide-men are, because at the moment he chops and changes and it can be inconsistent.

“But I think if Rodrygo is available, and I think he will be because he’s not a crucial part of that Real Madrid team, he will be of interest to them.

“I think it’s a move the player will be open to as well.

“Guardiola wants to strengthen, they’ve shown that already, and this could be the next move.”

Grealish’s move to Everton on loan had been expected throughout the transfer window, and he has already enjoyed an excellent start to his time under David Moyes.

As a result, Football Insider revealed on 26 August that Grealish will consider a wage drop to join Everton on a permanent deal come the end of the season.

Grealish impressed on his home debut for Everton, picking up two assists as Moyes; side beat Brighton 2-0 in their first Premier League game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Sources say the England international’s wages are currently too high for the Toffees to cover, but negotiations could take place with City if he continues to perform well.
