Nottingham Forest are considering sacking Nuno Espirito Santo following public bust-ups with both Evangelos Marinakis and Edu Gaspar.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the issues stem from the on-pitch falling-out with the controversial owner.

Following a 2-2 draw against Leicester in May, Marinakis stormed onto the pitch and remonstrated with Nuno, before claiming he was concerned about an injury to Taiwo Awoniyi.

However, Brown told Football Insider that the time that Nuno was left “humiliated” by Marinakis’ actions as tensions between the pair continued to rise.

Since then, Edu has been appointed as the club’s Global Head of Football, but the manager has been extremely vocal in his disagreements with their strategy.

Reports have claimed the relationship between the pair is “potentially irreparable” [The Athletic], adding to the building tension and pressure on Nuno.

Brown told Football Insider in March that Forest want Nuno to sign a new contract and will do everything they can to get a deal signed.

However, the former scout who has a wealth of experience working closely with elite-level managers including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Ron Atkinson, has insisted that the relationship has now deteriorated and cast a cloud over his position.

“Unfortunately, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Nuno sacked, I can certainly see it happening soon,” he told Football Insider.

“I though they swept it under the carpet when the owner stormed onto the pitch – that was wrong, it was unacceptable, and I have no doubt it added to any tension.

“I don’t think it had anything to do with the lad that was injured, that was just the story they used.

“They put it to bed, to be fair, but I don’t believe that relationship has ever been the same.

“He [Marinakis] seems to me to be very strong-willed and once he’s made a decision, that’s that, his decision is final.

“So if he’s having doubts about Nuno, we all know what could happen.

“He’s brought Edu in to oversee things, but that relationship isn’t a good one with the manager either, so it hasn’t helped matters at all.

“For the manager, I can imagine it’s a difficult situation, because he’s going all he can and doing an excellent job on the pitch but we’re having to talk about his future.”

As speculation surrounding the manager’s future at the City Ground continues to grow, potential replacements have already been linked with the role.

Brown told Football Insider on 25 August that Brendan Rodgers could walk away from Celtic if offered the change to return to the Premier League with Forest.

This comes after Football Insider first revealed in April that Rodgers could quit Celtic amid Premier League interest and has been left frustrated in the transfer market.

The boss is determined to strengthen his side and to become competitive in Europe, but is concerned the board are happy just to rest on their laurels.
