Oliver Glasner is “highly likely” to quit Crystal Palace at the end of his current contract as tensions continue to grow with chairman Steve Parish.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the 51-year-old has no plans to extend his contract at Selhurst Park.

The relationship with the club’s chairman is believed to have soured after Parish planned to sell Marc Guehi with no replacement in the final hours of the transfer window.

This comes following claims that Glasner threatened to resign if Guehi was sold, while he has less than a year remaining on his contract with Palace.

Brown first told Football Insider in March that Palace want Glasner to sign a new contract and have been pushing to reach an agreement amid fears he could quit.

However, Football Insider revealed on 17 August that Glasner has grown frustrated at Crystal Palace as a result of the lack of direction and ambition shown in the transfer market.

Brown told Football Insider in May that Parish wanted to hand Glasner a new contract following their FA Cup win as they aim to build a long-term plan at Selhurst Park.

However, the former scout who has a wealth of experience working closely with elite-level managers including the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Ron Atkinson at Man United, has explained the boss is now unlikely to commit his future to Palace.

“The Marc Guehi situation has not helped things with the manager,” he told Football Insider.

“There are tensions behind the scenes, he’s not happy even to the point where he’s threatened to walk away in certain circumstances, and Guehi isn’t happy either.

“The chairman made a decision that went directly against the manager’s wishes, that’s not the type of situation any manager wants to be in.

“He’s only got a year left on his contract, and I would say he’s highly likely to leave when his deal runs out because of the way things have gone.

“Glasner has been quite vocal about what he expects from the club.

“He wanted to be backed in the transfer market, to get deals done early, and to keep their best players.

“I appreciate that’s not always possible, and it’s been a difficult summer for Palace off the pitch, but it hasn’t helped the relationship between them.

“They’d already sold Eze, granted they brought in a replacement for him quickly, but then selling Guehi would have been a major blow to their team.

“So you can see why the manager is annoyed, and I think it would be difficult for Palace to tie him down to a new contract unless something dramatic happens.”

The fall-out of Palace’s deadline day drama continues to cause concerns at Selhurst Park, with Guehi now said to be unhappy with the way things played out.

Brown told Football Insider on 2 September that Guehi is “angry and disappointed” at Crystal Palace after being “stitched up” by their decision not to allow the move.

Having behaved respectively throughout the window, without forcing a move or causing any issues for the Eagles, he is said to be upset with their actions.

However, the Eagles failed to bring in a replacement after Liverpool waited until 48 hours before the deadline to make a formal offer, making the situation “impossible”.
