Wolves could have no choice but to sack Vitor Pereira if their dismal start to the season continues despite having handed him a new contract.
That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Wolves are now among the favourites to be relegated this season.
The Black Country club have failed to pick up a single point after five league games and the manager’s position has come under growing scrutiny as a result.
Wolves have joined an exclusive club after their defeat to Leeds and their dismal start, becoming one of just six teams to start the season with five successive defeats.
However, Pereira signed a new deal at Wolves earlier this month, raising questions about whether the board could be forced to back him despite their poor start.

Brown told Football Insider in June that Pereira could have quit Wolves amid interest from Benfica given his contract situation at Molineux.
The former scout, who has a wealth of experience working closely alongside elite-level manager including Sir Alex Ferguson and Ron Atkinson at Man United, insisted that while his future may now be more secure, it will not save him from the sack.

“We don’t know the terms of the contract,” he told Football Insider.
“They’ve made a statement publicly with the contract to show that they’re backing the manager, with the intention of boosting morale and all of that.
“But there could be a clause in there which means if they sack him, they only have to pay three months wages or something along those lines, I’ve seen that happen before.
“So just because he’s signed this new deal, it’s not impossible that they could now go and sack him.
“I’ve had Wolves as a candidate to go down personally, because they’ve lost some key players.
“They haven’t picked up a single point from five games so far, and I don’t see anything from them that suggests they’ll be able to win enough to stay up.
“I might be proven wrong of course, but there’s a lot of cause for concern there.
“If things continue in the way they have gone so far, they may have no choice but to sack him regardless of him signing that new contract.”
The Wolves manager is now under increasing pressure to guide his team away from the relegation zone, but must start picking up points soon to avoid the sack.
Wolves’ decision to hand Pereira a new contract on 18 September was designed to make a public show of their unity and backing of the manager despite a difficult spell.
However, it is unlikely to be seen as a commitment to the future due to the possibility of a clause which would give the club more favourable terms should they pull the trigger.
While the exact terms of his contract remain undisclosed, the act of having signed a new deal does not serve as a guarantee that his job will be safe.

Brown told Football Insider in October 2024 that then-Rangers boss Philippe Clement had agreed a termination fee as part of his contract at Ibrox.
The boss was dismissed in February despite having agreed a new contract the previous summer, and Pereira could be set to suffer the same fate at Wolves.
