Liverpool’s summer spending spree has dominated headlines over recent months as the champions flex their muscles.
The Reds have had a very busy time of it, wheeling and dealing to completely reshape Arne Slot’s squad ahead of the new campaign.
There were some huge deals done, with Liverpool twice breaking the British transfer record on Florian Wirtz and then Alexander Isak.
Whether Liverpool overpaid for either player will become clear in the months and years to come, but for now, supporters are very happy indeed.
Wirtz and Isak join a stellar cast in the Liverpool squad, with seriously big money spent on the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Dominik Szoboszlai, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker.
But with so many star names to choose from, who exactly is the most valuable player Slot has at his disposal?
Thankfully, the experts at the CIES Football Observatory have been on-hand to work it out.

The smart people at CIES claim that their valuations are made on a scientific basis to provide a ‘fair price’ for professional footballers in terms of market value.
And having updated their criteria for the end of the transfer window in September, they have named Wirtz as Liverpool’s most valuable player.

The Reds will pay a top price of £116m if all add-ons are met in their signing of the German, but according to CIES, this is actually a rather significant underpay.
They claim that Wirtz is actually worth between £141m and £164m.
Liverpool appear to have got themselves a bargain.

Wirtz’s valuation puts him fourth on this list, which only highlights the most valuable player from each team.
Only Lamine Yamal, Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham sit above him as numbers one, two and three respectively.
Given that CIES only pick out the top most valuable player from each club, we cannot see the valuations on the likes of Isak or Ekitike.
However, it does open up the possibility of some former Liverpool players being on the list, and, scrolling down, a certain Darwin Nunez pops up for Al Hilal.
Nunez is said to be the Saudi club’s highest value player, with a price of £28-33m attached to him.
From a Liverpool point of view, this is far lower than the reported £56.6m the Reds sold him for this summer.
Good business all around from Liverpool.
