The Football Association have confirmed that they are investigating Liverpool’s role in the European Super League plot.

Fenway Sports Group prompted outrage among Liverpool fans when they confirmed last month that the club were one of 12 founding members in the proposed breakaway league.

“Last week, we started an official inquiry into the formation of the European Super League and the involvement of the six English clubs.

“Since we became aware of the European Super League our priority and focus has been on preventing it from happening, both now and in the future,” a statement from the governing body read.

Reds owner John W Henry was listed as a Super League vice-president and is believed to have played a key role in the venture.

And now the FA are set to probe what part the Reds played in the planned breakaway after writing to all six clubs involved to tell them that a formal inquiry has been launched.

We just won't be sharing this on our social media channels during this time.
