The FA has decided on the course of action they will take on Cody Gakpo, following his actions in Liverpool’s win on Sunday.

Gakpo was one of four Liverpool players on the scoresheet as the Reds secured their 20th league crown on Sunday courtesy of a 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

In an emotionally-charged afternoon at Anfield, Spurs opened the scoring through former Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke.

However, Liverpool went level almost immediately, with  Luis Diaz equalising for the Reds.

Alexis  Mac Allister scored the second, with the Argentina midfielder unleashing a thunderous left-footed shot after receiving the pass from Ryan Gravenberch outside the area.

Gakpo scored Liverpool’s third, with a fine-taken goal from inside the box.

His goal completed the comeback and handed Liverpool the advantage going into the break.

After the first half, a Mohamed Salah strike and an own goal from Destiny Udogie completed Liverpool’s win.

However, Gakpo’s celebration after scoring his goal was said to be in violation of the FA kit rule, and it was reported that the Dutchman could be banned as a result.

The FA kit rules prohibit footballers from displaying religious statements or slogans on their kits during matches.

Shortly after scoring on Sunday, Gakpo lifted his jersey to reveal the religious slogan “I belong to Jesus.”

Gakpo’s goal celebration was reminiscent of that of Kaka in 2007.

The Brazilian forward revealed the same slogan under his AC Milan jersey when the Italian side beat Liverpool in the 2007 Champions League final in Athens.

Although Gakpo was shown a yellow card for removing his jersey, The Telegraph reported that he could face further action over the slogan on his sleeveless shirt.

However, it has now been revealed that the Liverpool star has escaped a ban, but will instead be reminded of the FA kit rules.

This is according to The Athletic, who claim that “Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo will be reminded by the Football Association (FA) about the organisation’s rules after displaying a religious message on his shirt during his side’s win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.”

The FA’s action on Gakpo is reminiscent of the action they took on Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi last year.

In December, the Palace captain was reminded by the FA about the organisation’s rules after twice displaying a religious message on his rainbow captain’s armband?

He was not formally charged.

With Gakpo avoiding any further punishment, he will be available to play for Liverpool in its next game, with the Reds facing Chelsea on Sunday for the first time as Premier League champions.
