The fallout of the devastating accident claimed the lives of Diogo Jota and his 25-year-old brother, Andre Silva (who was also a professional footballer with Portuguese second-tier club Penafiel) continues into this Friday.
The accident occurred at approximately 12:30 AM local time on the A-52 motorway near Zamora, in the municipality of Cernadilla.
Spanish authorities confirmed that the brothers were traveling in a Lamborghini when the vehicle veered off the road.
Police investigating the crash believe a tire blowout while overtaking another vehicle caused the fatal incident.
And while Mohamed Salah is among the latest of Jota’s teammates to pay their respects, it seems the Football Association (FA) also want to lend their support.
The BBC have reported that the FA will seek guidance from Liverpool FC over plans for a potential tribute during this year’s FA Community Shield.
Discussions will be held about how best to honor the Liverpool icon during the traditional season curtain-raiser, scheduled for August 10 at Wembley Stadium.
This is yet another way the footballing world is coming together for the Diogo Jota tragedy, with the UEFA Women’s European Championship clash between Spain and Portugal seeing a minute of silence observed before kick-off.
