Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have responded to rumours that they are interested in the potential acquisition of Spanish club Getafe CF.
FSG have been on the lookout for an additional football team to form a multi-club organisation that will aid Liverpool through player development and recruitment.
The move is part of the agreement that saw former Reds sporting director Michael Edwards come back into the fold as FSG's head of football.
This Tuesday, Spanish publication Marca and The Times claimed they have set their sights on Getafe, who finished 13th in La Liga in 2024/25, as one of numerous clubs in the country they have supposedly conducted feasibility studies towards.

When quizzed on the Getafe links, an FSG spokesperson told the ECHO: "FSG routinely engages in conversations and evaluates opportunities across global sports, a common process to assess ventures that align with the organisation’s strategic priorities."
It remains to be seen whether these new Spanish reports amount to anything serious through FSG's next actions.
As to why Liverpool's owners would be looking towards the Madrid-based club, first it is outlined that they are an established Spanish top-flight side having been in La Liga now for seven consecutive years.

Next, as of June 9, work got underway on the modernisation redevelopment of their 16,500-seater Estadio Coliseum.
Getafe will continue to play matches at the venue over the next three years whilst the build takes place, which will see Amenabar Construcciones - the developers of Real Sociedad's Reale Arena and surrounding sports city, plus SD Eibar's Ipurua Municipal Stadium - add 3,000 new seats and create a 'state-of-the-art infrastructure', in the club's own words.
This stadium redevelopment has long been a desire of club president of Angel Torres, who provides the third reason for FSG to be interested.
It is said the 73-year-old businessman has the intention to step down and sell his majority share of the club to someone 'financially capable and knowledgeable about football'.
FSG would fit that bill.

The search for a new club alongside Liverpool has already seen the Boston-based group look elsewhere to begin with.
Last summer they had entered discussions about the potential purchase of French club Girondins de Bordeaux, though their stadium ownership and concern over weak French TV rights resulted in them pulling out.
Earlier this year it was then reported that FSG were interested in buying another Spanish club, Malaga.
