Ever since the crash and burn of the European Super League plans last week, Fenway Sports Group have faced plenty of heat for their part in the whole sorry saga.

For some Liverpool fans the latest miscalculation from John W. Henry et al is simply one too far and there is no route back for them, even if Henry did try to show some contrition with his video apology to supporters last week.

While FSG have been linked with selling Liverpool, even reported to have turned down a £3bn bid for the club prior to the Super League plans collapsing, sources in the US maintain that they aren't looking to sell the club, despite the criticism that they have come in for.

Speaking on a Sportico webinar that discussed the current state of the business of baseball, Red Sox CEO Sam Kennedy, who is now a partner in FSG following the RedBird investment reshuffle, gave a clue as to the next moves for FSG and their future strategy.

But for FSG, while burned by their involvement in the Super League plans that drew so much ire from fans, they appear to be on a trajectory to add to their portfolio as opposed to reducing it by one of it's prized assets.

In their statement following the investment from RedBird, FSG stated that one of the areas they would be looking at expanding in was their portfolio of teams.

However, in selling 11 per cent of the FSG business to private equity firm RedBird Capital Partners last month for £538m they have generated capital to allow them to pursue some of their objectives that they had for the decade ahead prior to the pandemic forcing sport to a grinding halt last year.
