Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are reportedly interested in buying another football club as part of their ambition to build a multi-club football model.

FSG have been pursuing a multi-club model centered around the Reds since appointing Michael Edwards as its chief executive of football in March 2024, two years after he stepped down as the club’s sporting director.

Michael Edwards spoke of Liverpool’s ambition when he said: “We are committed to acquiring and overseeing an additional club, growing this area of the organization.

“Remaining competitive requires investment and expansion in our current football portfolio”.

FSG failed in their attempt to buy Malaga and also pulled out of talks to buy struggling French club Bordeaux.

Bordeaux were provisionally relegated to the third-tier National 1 by French football’s financial watchdog, the DNCG, after failing to provide guarantees for the 2024-25 season.

FSG’s interest in Getafe emerged last month, but club owner Angel Torres played down the status of the talks earlier this month in an interview with Spanish radio station COPE.

He said there have been rumours about a takeover since he bought the club in 2002, and “now it’s Liverpool, but we’re not for sale.”

The 73-year-old added: “One day I’ll have to leave, but it’s a long way off.”

According to The Athletic, FSG is in talks with Getafe president Torres about a staged takeover that would add the La Liga club to its portfolio of sports teams.

Torres earlier put off potential bidders with a valuation for Getafe of almost £160million but he is now lowered his price tag to a more realistic £100million.
