Newcastle United are set to feel the effects of Fabian Schar’s injury when they face Arsenal in their next Premier League game.

After suffering a head injury in the Magpies’ Champions League defeat to Barcelona, Schar revealed that he will miss a few games.

Despite his absence, though, Newcastle maintained a clean sheet in their 0-0 draw with Bournemouth on Sunday, 21 September.

However, Eddie Howe will be concerned by the fact that his side have earned just one win from five attempts in the Premier League.

Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Manchester United are set to resist Newcastle’s advances for Kobbie Mainoo.

The England international would add vital strength in depth to Howe’s squad, who are striving for success in both the Premier League and Champions League.

Meanwhile, out of players who have contested 20 or more aerial duels in the top flight this season, only Liverpool duo Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate have a better success rate than Schar’s record of 72 per cent.

Even though Newcastle coped defensively without the 33-year-old against Bournemouth, Arsenal will pose an entirely different challenge on Sunday, 28 September.

The Gunners will look to exploit Schar’s absence when utilising their well-renowned set-piece tactics.

Howe has displayed some positive signs in recent weeks, as Newcastle made a good account of themselves against Barcelona despite their 2-1 defeat to the La Liga giants in the Champions League.

Since their 3-2 defeat to Liverpool on 25 August, the Magpies have gone undefeated in three of their last four games, keeping clean sheets against Leeds United, Wolves, and Bournemouth.

However, having failed to beat Leeds or Bournemouth, Howe has to ensure that Newcastle enjoy success in their upcoming Premier League games against Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, and Brighton.

Getting the better of the Gunners without Schar is a tough ask, though.

Meanwhile, the Magpies have to beat League One side Bradford City on Wednesday, 24 September, if they want to retain their EFL Cup title.

Furthermore, Howe is under more pressure in the upcoming Champions League ties with Union St Gilloise and Benfica, thanks to the recent defeat to Barcelona.
