The pair were killed in a car crash in the early hours of Thursday morning (July 3) after their vehicle veered off the road.

It's been reported the accident, on the A52 known as Palacios de Sanabria, near the city of Zamora, was the result of a blown-out tyre which led to their vehicle veering off the road.

The brothers had been travelling in the Zamora region of Sanabri and were making their way toward a ferry that was bound for the UK ahead of a return to pre-season training for Jota with the Reds.

The bodies of both footballers were returned to their native Portugal on Thursday evening with a wake then scheduled in Gondomar, a district of Porto, on Friday ahead of a funeral service at Igreja Matriz de Gondomar (the Mother Church of Gondomar) on Saturday (July 5).

Friday’s wake was held at Capelas da Ressurreicao (Chapels of the Resurrection) church, in the Fontainhas neighborhood, as mourners gathered on the streets of Porto to pay tribute to a national hero.

Fabinho was one of the most high-profile faces pictured at the wake.

The Brazilian made 98 appearances alongside the Portuguese in three seasons at the club as they helped the Reds win both the League and FA Cup.

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot was also pictured at the wake.

He made 95 appearances alongside Jota for Wolverhampton Wanderers and the Portugal national side.

Meanwhile, Jose Fonte was also spotted.

The former Southampton defender appeared alongside Jota for the Portuguese national side.

RB Leipzig forward Andre Silva was also in attendance, having made 35 appearances with his compatriot for club and country.

Jota spent the 2016/17 season on loan with the Portuguese giants, while his brother spent some of his youth career with the club.

Nottingham Forest and Portugal international Jota Silva was also pictured arriving at the wake with flowers.

He was later pictured speaking to Paulo Battista, friend and tailor of Jota.

Football agent Jorge Mendes, whose GestiFute agency represented the Liverpool forward, was also pictured at the wake.
