Former Liverpool striker Fabio Borini has joined a group of unattached players as he searches for a new club.
The Italian forward has been without a team since leaving Sampdoria.
Borini began his senior career at Chelsea before moving to Parma and AS Roma.
He returned to England to join Liverpool from Roma in July 2012, reuniting with Brendan Rodgers, whom the attacker had previously worked with during spells at Chelsea and Swansea City.
He debuted in a Europa League qualifier against Gomel and scored his first goal in the return leg at Anfield.
His first season was disrupted by injuries, but he scored his first Premier League goal as a substitute at Newcastle United.
The following season, he spent on loan at Sunderland, scoring 10 goals, reaching the League Cup final, and helping the team avoid relegation.
Borini returned to Liverpool in 2014-15 but made just 18 appearances before rejoining Sunderland permanently that summer.
He later went back to Italy with spells at AC Milan and Hellas Verona.
He enjoyed a productive period at Turkish side Fatih Karagumruk, scoring 35 goals in 75 appearances, before moving to Sampdoria.
The 33-year-old has now joined the PFA’s highly regarded pre-season programme, which allows out-of-contract professionals to train and maintain their fitness while seeking new opportunities, according to the Mirror.
The programme, held at Champneys Springs, has been running since the start of summer.
Other notable participants include former Premier League defender Paul Dummett, ex-Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman, and midfielder Tom Davies.
Borini will be hoping to impress and secure a new contract.
Notably, Borini’s former AC Milan teammate Asmir Begovic recently earned a contract with Championship side Leicester City after participating in the same programme.
