Fabio Vieira jets out for medical after Arsenal accept offer

Fabio Vieira is jetting out to undergo a medical with a new club after Arsenal accepted a loan-to-buy offer for him.

The 25-year-old has made just 49 senior appearances for the Gunners since arriving in June 2022 from the Portuguese giants, but it has not worked out for either party over the last few seasons.

West Ham had been interested in Vieira as a midfield option, and with five goals and six assists for Porto last season, clubs are keen to add his services to their squad before the transfer deadline.

Mikel Arteta has added Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi, and Eberechi Eze to the team over the last few weeks, leaving absolutely no space in the squad for the 2025/26 campaign.

Now, Vieira could depart on a new challenge to the Bundesliga, where Hamburger SV are lining up a deal for the midfielder, who has just failed to stamp his mark in the Premier League.

Taking to X (1 September), Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg wrote: “Fabio Vieira is on the verge of a move to Hamburger SV!

Loan with an option to buy,” leaving for his second loan deal in as many years before the transfer window slams shut.

He later added: “Full agreement.

Football Insider verdict

Arteta is under pressure to win silverware at Arsenal, and following an incredible summer transfer window, he is left with zero excuses, or at least the supporters will believe so.

While the Gunners have been handed a setback following a last-gasp defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, they still sit third in the Premier League table after three games.

Viktor Gyokeres appears to be the final piece of the puzzle at the Emirates Stadium, though he has only hit the back of the net against Leeds United so far.

Teams all around them in the table, including Chelsea, Tottenham, and Man City, have all strengthened ahead of an exciting 2025/26 campaign, so it will not be a simple challenge this season.

That does not mean that the Gunners are not attempting to change the squad further, such as Hamburger-bound Vieira, with multiple exits still possible before the 7pm deadline on 1 September.
