Fabrizio Romano has been discussing the latest regarding Arne Slot and his imminent switch to Liverpool at the end of the season.

The Dutch manager is set to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, with the German bidding goodbye after nine years on Merseyside.

Ever since Jurgen Klopp announced his departure, Arne Slot was not initially considered the front-runner for the Liverpool managerial position.

Discussion and media focus largely centered around candidates like Xabi Alonso and, more recently, Ruben Amorim.

However, last week, it became apparent that Liverpool’s leadership was keen on appointing Arne Slot, and developments have accelerated since.

According to Paul Joyce, Liverpool has agreed to pay Feyenoord a compensation of €9 million, plus an additional €2 million in add-ons, to secure Slot’s services.

Despite having two years remaining on his contract with Feyenoord, Slot’s ambition to take over from Jürgen Klopp at Anfield was publicly disclosed last week.

Initially, Feyenoord had rejected Liverpool’s first offer of about £7.7 million.

But after further discussions, Liverpool revisited the negotiations and successfully concluded an agreement to bring Slot on board.

Slot’s appointment is now considered a formality, although it is yet to be officially announced by either Liverpool or Feyenoord.

Fabrizio Romano reveals Arne Slot plan for Virgil van Dijk?

The Italian transfer guru first addressed the strange transfer stories linking Virgil van Dijk to a move to Borussia Dortmund, writing in his Daily Briefing:

“There have been reports in Germany in the last few days about Virgil van Dijk possibly going to Borussia Dortmund, but from what I’m hearing from sources this is not true.”

“My understanding is that Dortmund are focusing on different names – they will try to keep Jadon Sancho and Ian Maatsen, but Van Dijk links are not something real or concrete at this point.”

“Contacts are not taking place, it’s not happening.”

Then, Fabrizio Romano detailed how Arne Slot is going to approach the matter of Virgil van Dijk – with the defender’s contract expiring at the end of 2024/25:

“Incoming Liverpool manager Arne Slot will have a direct conversation with Van Dijk, and he will try to keep the experienced Dutch defender at the club as a part of his project.”

“Slot would love to keep Van Dijk at the club, so the conversation between them is going to be important.”

“Slot has not discussed any names with Liverpool so far when it comes to transfer targets.”

“It’s obvious now to link Dutch players with Liverpool, but the reality is that nothing is advanced or concrete now, it’s still too early.”

Virgil van Dijk is not getting any younger at 32 years old, but still has a lot to give in a Liverpool shirt.

Nonetheless, it’s already been reported by Fabrizio Romano himself that the Reds are eyeing centre-backs this summer.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s Willian Pacho has emerged as a target for the Reds, as has Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geetruida.
