Fabrizio Romano has provided his latest transfer update on Liverpool with the club not resting on their laurels after the Premier League triumph.
The transfer of Jeremie Frimpong is all but official, with the Dutchman completing his medical on Monday.
All that is left is the official announcement.
Meanwhile, Florian Wirtz has emerged as a credible transfer target for the Anfield club.
Liverpool’s pursuit of the highly-rated midfielder received a major boost after Manchester City withdrew from the competition to sign him.
The leadership of Liverpool is reportedly ready to make a significant push to secure his signature, with reports coming from Germany that “bosses close to Michael Edwards” have travelled to Boston to conduct talks over the transfer with John Henry and co.
And while plenty of Wirtz reports have been doing the rounds, the situation has gotten a bit quieter on Milos Kerkez.
The Hungarian is tipped to join Liverpool, although Manchester City have recently shown their interest.
Now the Italian transfer guru has provided his latest on the deal.
Speaking on the Market Madness podcast, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Liverpool are in for Kerkez – but warned that other clubs are also looking at the Hungarian:
“Liverpool are advancing, but careful until the end, because there are other clubs looking for left-backs in the market, and so we have to see what happens there.
“What they can guarantee is that Kerkez would be very happy to join Liverpool.
They are discussing personal terms.
“There has already been direct contact between Liverpool and Bournemouth to discuss the price tag.
“So the conversation is ongoing, step by step?
After Frimpong, Liverpool also want to add one more left-back to the squad.”
The Reds showed with Frimpong how effective sealing transfers early in the window can be – as the likes of Barcelona were sniffing around the Dutchman as well.
Kerkez is Premier League-proven, and his age of 21 means that the £45m investment it would require to get him out of Bournemouth could be viewed as a bargain later down the line.
From Romano, the message seems clear: Liverpool needs to wrap this transfer up quickly to avoid interference from other clubs.
