Fabrizio Romano has confirmed his latest Liverpool news with July now well underway.
It could be a very important month for the Reds, who do need to offload some players if they want to add to the squad and avoid an oversized squad for pre-season.
The sales of Trent Alexander-Arnold (£8.4million to Real Madrid), Caoimhin Kelleher (£12.5million to Brentford), and Jarell Quansah (£35million to Bayer Leverkusen) have already generated over £55million in income.
Another candidate for sale in Darwin Nunez sees his future appear increasingly uncertain, with Napoli emerging as the frontrunners for his signature.
Romano has confirmed that Nunez “remains Napoli’s priority and dream target as centre striker,” with the Italian club refusing to pursue alternative options until they exhaust their pursuit of the £85million signing.
Liverpool’s initial asking price of in excess of £60million represents a significant markdown from their record investment, but the club appears willing to accept losses to facilitate his departure.
The Reds have already rejected a €55million (£47.4million) bid from Napoli, though negotiations continue with the striker reportedly having “already agreed a switch to Naples”.
And one potential incoming dependent on the sale of the Uruguayan in Hugo Ekitike is keen on the move to the Premier League.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that there is “movement” on Hugo Ekitike, and explains that Newcastle are the latest club to show interest after Liverpool and Chelsea calls “for weeks”
“There is movement on Hugo Ekitike, with interest from Saudi, but the priority of the player remains England,” the Italian transfer guru said
“And with Newcastle interested in Hugo Ekitike, there is still interest also from more clubs.”
“Because clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea have been calling for the player for weeks, since June, for example, being informed on the situation of Hugo Ekitike.”
“Newcastle are also interested in the player, and so we will see what’s going to happen with the Eintracht striker this summer transfer window.”
Frankfurt’s Champions League qualification for only the second time in their history provides financial security.
Ekitike’s contract runs until 2029, eliminating any pressure to sell?
The club’s recent track record of developing and selling players at premium prices has established their reputation as shrewd negotiators.
However, the emergence of replacement targets suggests Frankfurt may be more open to negotiations than their public stance indicates.
Reports linking them with Lyon’s Georges Mikautadze as a potential replacement hint at contingency planning that typically precedes major sales.
