The 22-year-old transferred to PSG from Lyon in the summer of 2023 and made a strong impact with his performances, although he found it challenging to secure a regular starting spot under Luis Enrique.
He started 14 out of 34 Ligue 1 matches last term, delivering an impressive tally of 14 goals and 11 assists.
However, the Frenchman faces tough competition for a place in the starting lineup from Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Desire Doue in Enrique’s squad.
L’Équipe reported that Liverpool were keen on the wide man in the summer, which was not rebuffed wholesale by Premier League insiders.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Liverpool had concrete interest in the PSG man over the summer:
“Bradley Barcola, this summer, was one of the names being considered by Liverpool in case they couldn’t get Alexander Isak,” the Italian began.
“You might say ‘but Barcola is winger, Isak is a striker’… but the plan at Liverpool was let’s get Alexander Isak, if we can’t get Isak, we need another world class player.”
The only world-class player on the market, in their view, was a winger [Barcola] and not a striker.”
“The only world-class player upfront was Alexander Isak, he was the No.1 target.”
“But in case Isak was not available, Barcola was seen as a world-class winger and as an opportunity.”
However, Fabrizio Romano also asserted that PSG never even thought of selling him, and that a new contract at the Parc Des Prince is now in the works to dissuade further interest from Liverpool and the rest of the Premier League:
“For Paris Saint-Germain, he was never for sale?
So it was probably going to be an impossible deal.”
“But at the internal discussions, Liverpool several times considered Barcola as an option.”
“For PSG, it was never an option (to sell)
Now a new contract will be a topic, a new contract for Barcola will be something to discuss in the coming weeks,” Romano explained.
“PSG are aware of the interest from the Premier League, they know the interest can come in future [transfer] windows.”
“So, they want to make sure they can find a solution to extend the contract of Bradley Barcola.”
