Whispers from Tyneside grew into a roar on Thursday as Alexander Isak’s absence from Newcastle’s tour sparked feverish speculation.
The club insists a minor thigh issue, although David Ornstein asserts that the Swede asked to stay behind, informing chiefs he wants to “explore his options” this window.
Noise then spiked when Craig Hope revealed Isak had formally told Newcastle of his stance.
All of these reports got Liverpool fans excited, but there have also been murmurings of interest from Al-Hilal.
It’s believed that the Saudi giants made discreet checks on the numbers required and are said to be readying an eye-watering salary package, although talks remain only exploratory.
However, the ever-reliable Fabrizio Romano has come out to set the record straight.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Italian first confirmed the widespread reports that Isak is angling for a move away from St James’ Park:
“Another big saga is still here.
Despite completing an important signing like Hugo Ekitike, Liverpool are not done on the market,” said the transfer expert.
“Alexander Isak is now taking a strong position.
It’s not about the minor injury he has.”
“At the moment , it’s not an official transfer request, but informing them he wants to go and try something different.”
The Italian transfer guru then mentioned the Al-Hilal links, and dismissed it by stating that there are no talks between the Magpies and the Saudi club.
He also mentioned that Isak and his entourage are likewise not in talks with Al-Hilal:
“We had reports and rumours about Al-Hilal last week and this week… from what I’m hearing Al-Hilal are not in active talks to sign Isak.”
“If they will arrive in the next days to present a proposal, try and sign/convince the player I will tell you.”
“But as of today [Thursday], Al-Hilal and Newcastle have had 0 contacts about Alexander Isak.”
“Also, Isak is not negotiating with Al-Hilal about the contract and salary and all the rest.”
“The Saudi front is quiet, the Liverpool situation is absolutely on and concrete.”
“Why Liverpool.
His situation remains one to follow with Bayern set to send a new proposal to Liverpool.”
“If Luis Diaz leaves and Newcastle open the door to Alexander Isak… keep an eye on that one.”
