The Italian has struggled to get regular minutes since arriving on Merseyside.
Federico Chiesa signed from Juventus last summer in what was Liverpool’s only summer addition ahead of Arne Slot’s first season in charge.
The Dutchman went on to win the Premier League in his debut season in charge, but his lack of rotation left Chiesa watching most of, if not all, of the season from the side-lines.
Chiesa had a mixed start to pre-season ahead of this season, and despite scoring in Liverpool’s 5-1 win against Stoke City behind closed doors at the AXA Training Centre, Arne Slot decided against including him in the squad that travelled to Hong Kong and Japan for pre-season games.
Despite the setbacks, amidst Slot not always giving him the minutes he deserves, or heavy competition for starting place in a stacked offensive department, the Italian came up with a moment of brilliance that proved maybe Liverpool can still rely on him.
Last night, as Liverpool scrambled to rescue the game after letting go of a 2-0 lead in their Premier League opener against Bournemouth, Chiesa stepped up in the 89th minute to volley home a winner that sent Anfield into chaos and the Reds on their way to the retention of the Premier League title.
However, even though Premier League football is back, the transfer window is still open, and a lot can still happen between now and September 1st.
It is common knowledge that Federico Chiesa has been consistently linked with a move back to Serie A this summer but Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Italian’s mindset has now changed on where he sees his future.
“Things around Chiesa have changed.
But, he was never close.”
“From the day Luis Diaz left, Chiesa decided to take on his personal challenge
Liverpool’s focus shifted towards a centre forward, not a winger, and at that moment eh resolved to stay and prove himself.”
“We always know in football that a big offer can change everything, but right now Chiesa is determined to stay at Liverpool.”
This appears to show that despite all the rumours linking Chiesa with a move away this summer, he could just stay after all.
