Fabrizio Romano has confirmed his latest on Ajax’s Jorrel Hato ahead of the summer transfer window.
With Liverpool’s need for both center-back and left-back reinforcements, the Dutch international is a versatile solution to reinforce both problem areas.
The teenager has been indispensable for Ajax this season.
He has racked up three goals and six assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.
Ajax’s history of nurturing defenders like Matthijs de Ligt and Jurrien Timber provides a compelling pedigree for Hato’s development.
The club’s academy director, Nigel de Jong, hailed Hato as “the most complete defensive product since De Ligt,” emphasizing his leadership qualities despite his youth.
His underlying statistics show a player that is both defensively and offensively adept:
Jorrel Hato.
The appearance of Ajax defender Jorrel Hato at Anfield during Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Ipswich Town in January 2025 sparked significant transfer speculation, though the context revealed a more mundane explanation.
Hato’s presence in the main stand-captured in social media photos and dissected by fans immediately fueled rumours of an imminent move, given Liverpool’s well-documented interest in the Dutch prodigy.
However, the timing coincided with a break in Ajax’s schedule allowing Hato to travel freely.
Dutch journalist Mike Verweij clarified that Gravenberch, Hato’s former Ajax teammate, had extended the invitation as a casual gesture rather than a transfer-related overture.
But it seems that Liverpool interest is indeed legitimate nonetheless.
That’s because Fabrizio Romano has labelled the Dutchman as a transfer target this summer.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Italian said:
“Let me start with Jorrel Hato, this talented defender from Ajax
For sure, he’s a player on the list of Chelsea and Liverpool in the Premier League.”
“So both clubs are monitoring the player, and for sure he’s on the list.”
It’s not a surprise that Chelsea are likewise interested in the player, with the two clubs seemingly sharing transfer targets every summer.
Around the time of Hato’s Anfield appearance, Ajax maintained a firm stance against a winter sale – with Hato himself reportedly preferred delaying any move until summer.
