Thiago Alcantara is set to become involved in the football world again.

The former Liverpool midfielder announced his retirement from football last summer upon the expiry of his contract with the Reds.

His inability to stay fit played a role in that decision.

On 3rd May 2023, Thiago Alcantara was confirmed to miss the rest of the season after undergoing hip surgery.

He returned to the Liverpool squad 284 days later as a substitute in Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal.

Thiago then suffered a muscle injury in that match, keeping him out until the rest of the season.

In July 2024, he called time on his playing career, and is now set to return to football in a different capacity.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the former Liverpool and Barcelona player will be re-joining Hansi Flick’s coaching set-up for the second time.

The post reads:

“Thiago Alcantara set to return at Barca as part of Hansi Flick’s staff.”

“Decision made and agreement reached as Thiago will re-join Hansi Flick’s staff with immediate effect.”

“The plan is to re-start working together next week.”

He initially joined the coaching staff in July of last year, as he helped ease Flick into his new job, but left his role as assistant coach in August.

It was rumoured that he may return over the summer but there was nothing concrete

The confirmation has now arrived that he will re-join the set up.

Hansi Flick and Thiago Alcantara have a good relationship, stemming from their time together at Bayern Munich, where Thiago played under the management of Flick.

The pair won the Champions League together in that historic Covid season and Thiago played a significant role in achieving that success.
