Fabrizio Romano has been discussing the latest around Liverpool’s hunt for a new manager.

Jurgen Klopp’s farewell tour is not exactly going according to plan after the latest upset that saw them crash out of the Europa League to Atalanta.

The German will depart the club at the end of the season, with the Premier League the only thing left to play for this season.

Any incoming manager will have to ensure that they can connect with the fans and continue to uphold the high standards that Klopp has established in his 9 years as the Liverpool boss.

Xabi Alonso was believed to be the preferred candidate before he publicly announced his intention to remain at Bayer Leverkusen next season.

Ruben Amorim is now seen as the frontrunner amid reports that his agent has purchased property in the city of Liverpool.

However, one surprising name that cropped up is Niko Kova?, who has plenty of experience as a manager.

Niko Kova?, born in Berlin, Germany, had a notable career as a defensive midfielder and served as the captain of the Croatian national team.

Transitioning into a managerial role, the 52-year-old achieved significant success, most notably securing the German Cup with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2018.

He continued his accomplishments by winning both the league and cup double with Bayern Munich the following year.

Kova? was the manager of the Bayern Munich when Liverpool beat the German giants 3-1 in round of 16 enroute to winning the European Cup in 2019.

Kova? later took the helm at AS Monaco, where he served as head coach from 2020 to 2022.

Despite these achievements, his stint at Wolfsburg was less fruitful, culminating in an 11-game winless streak that led to his departure in March.

This marked a disappointing phase in his otherwise impressive coaching career.

What did Fabrizio Romano say about Niko Kova??

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the Italian transfer guru ruled out the Croation as well as up-and-coming Bologna manager Thiago Motta:

“Honestly, I didn’t hear anything about these two names?

With Niko Kovac, nothing at all, and also with Thiago Motta at the moment I’m not getting anything concrete with Liverpool.”

“He’s doing a fantastic job at Bologna, but at the moment I’m not hearing anything serious in terms of contact with English clubs in general.”

Joournalist Dean Jones backed up these claims, saying himself:

“The stories about Kovac seemed a little odd because, at the moment, there is no sign or reason as to why Liverpool would actually need a back-up plan,” Jones said.

“I do think there is confidence in finding an agreement over making Amorim their manager, but there has always been an acceptance that it would not be sorted out fast.”
