Liverpool supporters could be forgiven for wanting to get to the other side of Monday night’s clash against Newcastle.

Reds have had to wait a fair while to see their team in action again, having last played more than one week ago.

However, St James’ Park is set to be a bear pit following the lengthy and bitter Alexander Isak saga, which has rumbled on for well over a month.

Newcastle are never an easy team to play against, and Liverpool fans will be hoping that their team can stand up and be counted.

Beyond that, the Isak situation is going to have to be resolved one way or another, as the transfer window enters its final week.

And with Liverpool running out of time to add the Swede to their squad, journalist Fabrizio Romano has shared an insight into what could happen with Isak after Monday’s game.

For the last several weeks, there has been a strong feeling that Newcastle would not sell Isak before their game against Liverpool.

Not only would that open the possibility of the 25-year-old scoring against them, but it may also lead to anarchy and unrest amongst the home support at St James’.

As a result, Liverpool fans have been patient as they knew there would be no resolution earlier.

But according to Romano, the story will close from Tuesday onwards, with both teams still hoping for different outcomes.

“Monday’s game is going to be an important moment because it’s going to close this story between Newcastle and Liverpool and then from Tuesday we will understand more on this story,” the reporter told his YouTube channel.

“Newcastle internally hope that this week after the game Alexander Isak can return to training.

Newcastle really hope that.”

“Liverpool remain on their position: they want Isak, they will attack for Isak but it depends on Newcastle.

This story since July completely depends on Newcastle.

Isak wants to play for Liverpool, Liverpool are prepared to pay but Newcastle are the ones who decide and they will try their best to keep the player.

“Let’s follow the situation but Isak to Liverpool remains an open story.”

Although, Newcastle clearly hold the cards in this transfer fight, Liverpool simply have to force their hand as much as possible in the final days of the window.

Isak has done his bit by digging in and making it clear to Newcastle that he wants to go.

The Reds now have to test their resolve.

The Liverpool squad is light in attack going into the season, they have nothing to lose by putting a big bid on the table for Isak.

Newcastle obviously want replacements through the door before letting Isak go, but if Liverpool offer close to the £150m they are asking for, it will give them a real decision to make.

One thing that is certain in all this is that Liverpool will absolutely not sign Isak if they make no attempt to do so.
