Liverpool’s pursuit of Real Madrid’s 24-year-old winger Rodrygo has accelerated this summer as the Reds look to pre-empt Luis Diaz’s likely exit.

The Brazilian’s versatility – capable of playing on either flank or centrally – aligns perfectly with Arne Slot’s flexible front three, and Anfield insiders believe he could step straight into a starting role that has become crowded at the Bernabéu under Xabi Alonso.

German journalist Florian Plettenberg confirms that Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring Rodrygo’s situation, though their chase hinges on market dynamics and potential departures elsewhere.

Now Fabrizio Romano has an update on the situation.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Italian explained that it’s not going to be a situation that will be clear soon as the Brazilian is on holiday while his agents are still in talks with Real Madrid:

“At this moment, nothing is happening with Rodrygo,” the Italian began.

“Why.

Because the player is on holiday and his agents are talking to Real Madrid.”

“They already had a meeting last week [with Madrid] to just present their own position.”

“In that meeting, from what I’ve heard, Real Madrid confirmed that they are open to letting Rodrygo go.”

Romano then revealed that nothing is advanced, and nothing will happen until the Brazilian clearly communicates to Madrid that he wants to leave.

Up until now, that has not happened yet:

“Now it’s Rodrygo, together with his agents who has to decide what he wants to do – stay and fight for a spot or leave and explore all the options,” the transfer expert continued.

“There are options in the Premier League, in other countries including Paris Saint-Germain… so there are several options for him.”

“But at the moment, there are no advanced negotiations – not on club side and not on player side.”

“This is because this [transfer] has to start from Rodrygo.

It is Rodrygo who must go to Madrid and say ‘okay I want to go, give me the final price and then we’ll bring offers'”.

“This depends on Rodrygo… so that’s the story at the moment.”

The Italian transfer guru finished off by asserting that much like the fans, interested clubs are simply waiting to see what Rodrygo decides before the story can progress:

“We have to wait and be patient, I know there are many questions but at the moment, the Rodrygo story is not something changing in the next hours.”

“All the clubs [interested] are waiting to see what’s going to happen?

There is also the position of Real Madrid to understand the eventual transfer fee.”

“As I told you, the expectation is that Rodrygo will not leave for less than 100 million euros.”
