Liverpool might be gearing up for new signings this summer and according to Fabrizio Romano, there’s a potential approach for a Serie A star on the horizon.
Despite splurging over £100 million on midfield recruits last summer, the Reds are still eyeing reinforcements in that area.
With Arne Slot set to succeed Jurgen Klopp, there’s speculation that new players could be on their way to Anfield.
One player reportedly on the radar is Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners, a midfielder familiar to Slot.
The 26-year-old, who played a crucial role in Atalanta’s Europa League success, has been continuously linked with a move to Liverpool in recent years due to his impressive performances for the Serie A side.
However, Romano notes that Koopmeiners is also a top target for Juventus.
Furthermore, there haven’t been discussions between Slot and Liverpool’s directors regarding summer transfer targets as of yet.
Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest column for the Daily Briefing, Romano said: “Teun Koopmeiners – We’re seeing more links with Liverpool, but I’m still told he’s a priority target for Juventus this summer.
“Juve are working on it.
“Let’s see what happens at Liverpool but my information is that there is nothing concrete so far, we will see as soon as Arne Slot meets with the club’s new directors.”
With 15 goals and seven assists across all competitions, Koopmeiners has showcased his ability on both ends of the pitch.
His potential acquisition could significantly bolster Liverpool’s midfield, particularly following the departure of Thiago Alcantara.
The Dutch international midfielder emerges as an ideal candidate to fill the void left by Alcantara’s exit.
Reportedly valued at €60 million, his price tag poses a question of whether Liverpool are prepared to make such a substantial investment.
However, given the quality he could bring to the team, acquiring him could prove to be a worthwhile expense for the Reds.
