Liverpool have been very active in the summer transfer window, bringing in six players as Arne Slot looks to bolster his squad in bid to challenge on all fronts next season.
The Reds are prioritising the signing of a striker, with talks over Darwin Nunez’s exit set to accelerate in the coming weeks.
Napoli and Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal have been linked with a summer move for Nunez, who is reportedly valued at around £70million.
The 26-year-old has been tipped to leave Anfield after a mixed spell since joining from Benfica in 2022 for a potential £85million.
Nunez was among the goalscorers at Deepdale over the weekend as Slot’s side secured a 3-1 win over Preston North End – their first match since the devastating death of Diogo Jota and his brother.
Serie A champions Napoli were thought to be pushing for a deal for the Uruguay international, but a move to Italy is proving difficult due to the excessive cost.
This has opened the door for the Saudi Pro League clubs to swoop for Nunez, who was blocked from moving to the Middle East during the January transfer window.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided a fresh update on Nunez’s future at Anfield, claiming the Saudi clubs are prepared to tempt him again.
He posted on X:”Saudi Pro League top clubs make initial approach to sign Darwin Nunez… while he’s been waiting for Napoli for 1 month.
“Napoli close to signing Lucca as new striker, it was Darwin’s fav destination.
“Saudi clubs prepared to tempt him again now after deal close last January.”
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano added:” “Darwin Nunez continues to wait for Napoli, but he can’t wait forever, despite other significant offers.
“Everyone is waiting for Napoli to make a decision regarding the striker and figure out which path they will take.
“Darwin Nunez has important opportunities in Saudi Arabia, so it’s clear he can’t wait forever for Napoli.”
