Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Ruben Amorim amid plenty of reports on the Sporting CP manager.

On Monday, reports came in that Amorim was travelling to the UK to conduct talks with both West Ham and possibly Liverpool.

There have been persistent rumors linking Portuguese manager Amorim as the top candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield at the end of the season.

The Reds had already lost out on Xabi Alonso, and it was thought they would secure what many thought was the next best option in the 39-year-old.

However, West Ham’s interest combined with Liverpool’s lack of interest means that the Anfield hierarchy obviously have other candidates in mind.

West Ham United are reportedly considering an ambitious move for Ruben Amorim if current manager David Moyes departs at the end of the season.

Amorim is said to be the top target for the Hammers should Moyes leave his post.

Moyes’ contract is due to expire this summer, and although he was offered a new deal in February, a final decision on his future will wait until the season ends.

As a precaution, West Ham are preparing contingency plans should Moyes decide to move on from the London Stadium, with Amorim emerging as a leading candidate for the managerial role.

Now Fabrizio Romano has provided his latest on the matter.

What did Fabrizio Romano say about Ruben Amorim?

As mentioned, Ruben Amorim made the trip from Portugal to the UK on Monday to have talks with West Ham and potentially Liverpool.

However, the Italian transfer guru has only mentioned the meeting with the Hammers, writing on X:

“Ruben Amorim returned to Portugal after meeting West Ham board in London on Monday.”

“West Ham presented their project and will insist for Amorim; nothing done yet, while discussions with Liverpool are on stand-by.”

“Amorim will discuss his future steps with his agents.”

Amorim was joined on the jet with his agent Raul Costa, it seems that a meeting with Liverpool was not held.

It appears that Liverpool could now face the prospect of missing out on the 39-year-old manager who was widely seen as the ideal successor to Jurgen Klopp.

Many Reds fans are left wondering: if not Amorim, then who will step into the role?
