Fabrizio Romano has provided a brief update on Florian Wirtz and Liverpool’s efforts to land the German international this summer.

The Reds are entering a crucial week in their pursuit of the Bayer Leverkusen star, with the Premier League champions increasingly confident of securing a club-record transfer for the German playmaker

Liverpool have submitted their second improved offer for Wirtz, worth approximately €130 million (£109.4 million), which represents a significant increase from their initial bid that exceeded €100 million.

The proposal includes both guaranteed fees and performance-related add-ons, though the exact structure of these payments still needs to be ironed out.

It was initially hoped that the Anfield club would finalize the transfer before Wirtz joins Germany’s UEFA Nations League squad, but that will not now be possible.

The proposed fee would shatter the club’s previous record of £85 million for Darwin Nunez and approach the Premier League’s all-time high of £115 million (Moises Caicedo).

To offset costs, Liverpool will likely make sales with Nunez, Harvey Elliott, and Kostas Tsimikas amongst those with good chances of departing.

Wirtz is viewed as the creative force Liverpool need, especially as the club looks to add attacking invention to replace the influence of Trent Alexander-Arnold in advanced areas.

There have been plenty of reports that Leverkusen and Liverpool may agree on a cash-plus player swap for Wirtz, with the likes of Jarell Quansah or Harvey Elliott touted as options who could go the other way.

However, Fabrizio Romano, taking to his GIVEMESPORT newsletter, asserts that a player swap is not a hot topic in negotiations:

“They’ve discussed about it [swap deal] but I’m told add-ons is still the main focus of the negotiations.

Yes, it’s closer,” the Italian wrote.

“Liverpool remain confident to finalize Florian Wirtz deal as new round of talks has been scheduled this week.”

“Club optimistic to get the agreement sealed with Bayer Leverkusen soon.”

A key aspect of this transfer is the distribution of training compensation.

According to FIFA regulations, five percent of the transfer fee is allocated to the clubs that helped develop the player between the ages of 12 and 23.

In Florian Wirtz’s case, he moved from 1.

FC Köln to Bayer Leverkusen in January 2020 at the age of 16.

For 1?

FC Köln, who played a crucial role in Wirtz’s early development, means they stand to receive approximately three million euros from the transfer – a significant sum for the recently promoted Bundesliga side.
