Fabrizio Romano has revealed details of the negotiation between Liverpool and Napoli over Darwin Nunez.

Even the least clued-up Liverpool fan is aware that the Uruguayan is packing his bags this summer.

Despite flashes of brilliance since his potential £85 million arrival in 2022, Nunez has fallen down the pecking order under Arne Slot and is now available for transfer once the club’s valuation is met.

Serie A champions Napoli and Saudi Pro League heavyweights Al-Hilal have both expressed strong interest.

But the Naples side appear to be the 26-year-old’s preference.

Liverpool rebuffed a mid-season approach from Al-Nassr in January and remain only willing to sanction a sale that aligns with their valuation needs.

Formal negotiations are underway between the clubs, with initial bids around €43 million (approx. £36.4 million) plus performance-based add-ons of €7 million, though Liverpool remain hopeful of recouping closer to €65m.

Personal terms are said to include a five-year contract running until 2030, offering Nunez a base salary of €5 million per season, and bonuses to reflect his potential impact.

But according to Fabrizio Romano, Napoli are not getting near to what Liverpool want, and there is no agreement reached on the fee:

“There could be many signings for Liverpool this summer, but also for Liverpool the situation is very clear – they also need some outgoings,” he reported for Caught Offside.

“So don’t forget about the situation of Darwin Nunez, because there is interest from Napoli, but at the moment no agreement between club to club on the transfer fee.”

“There is still a gap between Liverpool and Napoli and this is a significant gap as of today on the valuation of the player.”

“Then let’s see what happens with more clubs in Europe and also in Saudi, who are also interested, because Darwin Nunez will be for sure one to watch in this summer’s transfer window.”

Darwin Nunez registered only seven goals and seven assists in 47 appearances across all competitions during the 2024-25 season.

He found it difficult to regain the confidence of manager Arne Slot, particularly in the second half of the campaign.
