Fabrizio Romano has revealed what will make it difficult for Liverpool to sign their primary No.

9 target, Alexander Isak.

The Newcastle United striker is high on the club’s list this summer, with Arne Slot identifying him as the ideal candidate to lead Liverpool’s attack.

Darwin Nunez is anticipated to leave, so the Reds are now looking for a proven Premier League goalscorer.

Fabrizio Romano has asserted that the 25-year-old will likely depart Anfield on multiple occasions.

The Uruguayan, signed for £85 million in 2022, has struggled to justify his price tag, managing just seven goals in 40 appearances this season.

With Nunez likely heading to Atletico Madrid or Saudi Arabia, the Reds targeted Isak, whose 20 Premier League goals this term trail only Mohamed Salah and Erling Haaland.

However, a report by Mark Douglas of the iPaper suggested that Liverpool has abandoned its pursuit of Isak for several reasons.

According to the report, Liverpool’s attempts to sign the Swede would prove futile for several reasons, including the length of his current contract, Newcastle’s secure financial position, and the likelihood of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

The Magpies view the 25-year-old as the cornerstone of their ambitions, with chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan issuing a directive to reject all offers.

Fabrizio Romano has corroborated a part of the iPaper’s story, claiming that Liverpool face a significant problem in their attempt to sign Isak.

“Liverpool appreciate the player and have already made some contact too,” Romano said in his latest episode of the Here You Go Podcast on YouTube.

“But in this case, the problem here is Newcastle.

Newcastle will make life very difficult for any club interested in Alexander Isak.

It has to be a big, big proposal because they want to keep the player.

“They plan to keep the player, and they trust Isak as part of the squad for next season.

Let’s see what Liverpool will decide to do?

But let’s respect Newcastle, because they really want to keep the player.”
