Fabrizio Romano has weighed-in on the Darwin Nunez situation following Liverpool’s 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.
The Reds got back to winning ways in the Premier League in spectacular fashion, but it was largely overshadowed by Darwin Nunez and his action after the match.
There was reportedly footage of the Uruguayan ‘storming down the tunnel’ post-match, and on Sunday night it emerged that Nunez had removed most of, if not all, Instagram posts relating to Liverpool FC.
Ever since the FA Cup exit at the hands of Manchester United, concerns have been mounting among fans and pundits regarding Darwin Nunez’s recent performances in a Liverpool jersey?
The Uruguayan striker has faced criticism for his lack of efficiency in the attacking third, an issue that other forwards like Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz have also grappled with this season.
Against Tottenham Hotspur, Nunez was afforded a cameo off the bench, and proceeded to miss another huge chance 1v1 in the dying embers if the game.
Now in his second full season at Anfield, many Liverpool fans are wondering when we are going to see the Darwin Nunez that made the club fork out £85 million for his services in the summer of 2022.
What did Fabrizio Romano say about Darwin Nunez?
Speaking to CaughtOffside, the Italian transfer guru admitted that it was not his place to comment on personal things of players – and that social media activities have little bearing on transfers:
“A lot of fans are asking about Darwin Nunez deleting all Liverpool-related posts from his Instagram,” Romano began.
“However, these are private things, so only Darwin can clarify why he did that; for sure it’s not the best moment for him, but I’d never link social media activities with transfer market movements.”
“It’s all quiet so far, nothing is happening and for sure Darwin is looking forward to speaking to new coach Arne Slot.”
Certainly, since the FA Cup elimination on March 17th, Nunez, 24, has only found the net once in Premier League matches.
This scoring record falls short of the standards expected from a striker leading a title-winning campaign.
Overall, Nunez has amassed a total of 11 goals in the Premier League, a figure that may not inspire confidence in his ability to spearhead a championship-winning side.
Nevertheless, he deserves a fresh slate under Arne Slot, and who knows, perhaps the Dutch manager will be able to unlock the enigma that is Darwin Nunez.
