Trent Alexander-Arnold is poised to join Real Madrid as early as June 1 after giving the green light to expedite his transfer from Liverpool, with the Spanish club aiming to register him for the FIFA Club World Cup.

Los Blancos want to finalize a €1 million (£850,000) compensation package to secure Alexander-Arnold’s early release from Liverpool, allowing the 26-year-old to participate in the Club World Cup, which begins on June 15.

The defender’s Liverpool contract expires on June 30, but Madrid’s opening match against Al Hilal on June 18 has forced urgent negotiations.

According to AS, Alexander-Arnold has approved the move, telling Madrid he is “willing to significantly shorten his holidays” to join their campaign.

The deal includes covering Alexander-Arnold’s June wages (approximately £720,000) and a nominal transfer fee, with Liverpool retaining leverage in talks?

If finalized, the right-back could be unveiled at the Santiago Bernabéu in early June, bypassing the standard July 1 free-agent timeline.

In a parallel development, Marca has now confirmed that former Liverpool man Xabi Alonso will replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.

They report that Ancelotti finalized his exit terms after the defeat against Arsenal, paving the way for the Spaniard to make the switch to Los Blancos.

It is claimed that Alonso will sign a three-year deal at the club, and he will be bringing some of his coaching staff from Bayer Leverkusen.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano has likewise confirmed the news, reporting on X:

“Xabi Alonso, prepared to say yes to Real Madrid and then complete his move as soon as the exit process with Ancelotti will be finalised.”

“Bayer are accelerating the process to find a new head coach with talks to progress as they’re now expecting Xabi to leave.”

And while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alonso never played together, the pair are believed to know each other in the industry – and of course, the 26-year-old would have watched Alonso growing up as a player in the Reds’ academy.
