The results of a fan-led review carried out in tandem with the government feel like a step forward for football.

But as of yet, it's not quite clear how significant that step will be.

On Wednesday night, the outcome of the much-anticipated review were published and a number of recommendations have been made to potentially improve governance of the sport.

Additionally, the review recommends a number of regulations be established to limit the potential for another European Super League fiasco.

They include former England and Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson and Kevin Miles, the chief executive of the Football Supporters' Association.

"The way the government takes the heat out of it is to announce an independent review, so that whenever they are asked they can say 'Lord So and So is looking into this and it would be wrong to prejudge it'."

Such a body would in theory prevent situations like those that occurred at Bury in 2019 - it was the goings on at Gigg Lane that ultimately triggered the establishment of the review in the first place - when the club were expelled from the Football League due to resolvable monetary problems.
